Membership in the Friends can take on various forms, from providing support to becoming an active participant. Supporting friends contribute by paying annual dues of their choice, while active friends also donate their time by volunteering. Whether you can spare just a single shift or even serve on the FOL board, every bit of involvement counts. We are always in need of more active volunteers, so why not give it a try? As a Friend, you’ll have the chance to connect with other like-minded individuals in the community and spend time in our beautiful library. It’s not just a workplace, it’s a community where you can make a real impact. Join us in choosing to make a difference at the Ignacio Community Library.
There are volunteer opportunities for:
Helping library staff cover and label books
Organizing books on shelves
Sorting and pricing donation books
Helping on FOL fund drives and event tables
Keeping our library beautiful/Cleaning up around the library
Serving on the FOL board
The Friends have several ongoing fund-raising efforts:
* Rocky Mountain Chocolate * Book Sales * Grant Writing
{To get Grants, we need to have lots of members. It shows community support. Even if you are too busy to volunteer, your membership makes a difference!}
The Friends of the Ignacio Community Library is an all volunteer organization. Officers of the organization include a President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary, who serve as the board of directors. There are currently approximately 100 members.
The Friends do a lot of fundraising to help the library keep running and put on special programs. Here’s how the funds are distributed- Staff make a request for the Friends to fund a particular item of equipment or other program cost. The officers of the board consider each proposal and available funds. Then, if approved, they issue a check directly to the company the program item is being procured from or to the library itself.
The Friends also stimulate gifts of books, magazines, desirable collections, endowments and bequests from members of the public for continued support of the library. The Friends were formally organized in 2006 as a 501 (c) (3) organization. All activities of the Friends of the Ignacio Community Library are for nonprofit purposes and are in compliance with the Non-profit Corporation Act of the state of Colorado and the regulations of the Internal RevenueService (IRS) regarding 501 (c) (3) organizations.
