The Friends of the Ignacio Community Library is an organization formed of individuals interested in supporting the Ignacio Community Library (ICL) located in Ignacio, Colorado. The Friends engage in fund raising activities on behalf of the library, provide volunteers to assist the library staff, and perform activities to focus public attention on the library and its services, facilities, and needs. The Friends also stimulate gifts of books, magazines, desirable collections, endowments and bequests from members of the public for continued support of the library.
The Friends were formally organized in 2006 as a 501 (c) (3) organization. All activities of the Friends of the Ignacio Community Library are for nonprofit purposes and are in compliance with the Non-profit Corporation Act of the state of Colorado and the regulations of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regarding 501 (c) (3) organizations.
The Friends of the Ignacio Community Library is an all volunteer organization. There are no paid employees. Officers of the organization include a President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary, who serve as the board of directors. There are currently approximately ten members. The Friends have several ongoing fund raising efforts: book sales, food sales during Ignacio town events, and recycling of used printer cartridges. There is no set budget because as funds are raised they are all disbursed to the Ignacio Community Library.
The process for distribution of the funds is as follows. Adult and children program staff of the Ignacio Community Library make a request proposal for the funding of a particular item of program equipment to the Friends of the Library. The officers and members of the Friends consider each proposal and available funds. Then, if approved, we issue a check directly to the company the program item is being procured from, or to the library itself.
